New Staff/PSD at Governor Wolf

Mrs. Randall - School Nurse

My name is Mrs. Randall, and I am your new school nurse at Governor Wolf. I am very excited to be working at such a friendly school. The staff and parents have all been both welcoming and supportive. I have been a Registered Nurse for 20 years in the hospital and am looking forward to this new challenge. I received my School Nurse Certification at Cedar Crest College. My husband and I have lived in Bethlehem for 8 years with our 3 wonderful children who all attend schools in the Bethlehem Area School District. I was my daughter's Girl Scout leader for 7 years. I have been a Sunday School teacher with my church for 4 years in the preschool/Kindergarten room. In my free time I enjoy reading, swimming, and camping. I will be in the health room every other Monday and every Wednesday. The health room will be staffed by 2 very capable and knowledgeable health assistants, Mrs. George and Mrs. Adams, on the days I am not there. Please feel free to call or e-mail me with any questions or concerns you may have about your child. I ask that you keep the health room informed of any changes in your child's health status so that we may work together to make this a great year at Governor Wolf. Please refer to the Health Room link on the Governor Wolf website for important information about when to keep your child home from school and for information regarding medication administration at school. The link will provide access to my email. Please check your child's backpack for any communication from the health room and return forms promptly. Again, I would like to thank you for the privalege of working with your children this year. With continued staff and parent support, I know this will be a very healthy and successful school year.

Miss Berger
(student teacher with Mrs. Leon)

My name is Monika Berger. I am currently a student at East Stroudsburg University, involved in the student teaching program. I grew up in the Lehigh Valley, attending school in the Nazareth School District. Upon graduating from Nazareth High School, I first attended Temple University. At Temple, I was a marketing major and wanted to pursue something in the competitive field of business. However, through a summer position at a nearby daycare, my path turned to education. Working with the children everyday, learning and teaching them was truly a rewarding experience. I learned various lessons that will help me to shape a positive teaching career. I am truly excited to continue my teaching journey. I have enjoyed working with children through summer camps, teaching snowboarding lessons, classroom interactions, and tutoring and mentoring students. I have enjoyed and appreciated every opportunity I have had with the students and staff of Governor Wolf Elementary, and I can only hope to continue my success surrounded by such wonderful individuals.

Miss Conti
(apprentice teacher in Ms. Hollinger's class)

My name is Tanya Conti. I am working this semester with Miss Hollinger in her second grade classroom. I am from East Stroudsburg University and I am an Elementary Education major. I have a concentration in General Science. I was born and raised, and still currently reside, in Bethlehem. I am a Liberty High School graduate from 2005. GO CANES!!!

When I have time away from school and work, I love to cozy up with a good Nicholas Sparks book and my little Chihuahua Lola! I am also very interested in astronomy, traveling (particularly to the beach), I love the Philadelphia Flyers and all kinds of music and movies!

I am very excited about the upcoming weeks I will be spending at Governor Wolf! I hope to become an active member of the Governor Wolf community and give back as much to the students and faculty as they will be giving to me over these next few weeks! I can not wait teach interesting and engaging lessons to my second graders, and see how they grow into third graders by the end of my student teaching in the spring!

Ms. DeFrain
(apprentice teacher in Mrs. Donovan's class)

Hello, my name is Sherri DeFrain. I am a senior elementary education major at East Stroudsburg University, with a concentration in reading. Reading is a favorite relaxing activity for me. This past summer I read approximately 25 books written for fourth to twelfth graders. The Governor Wolf School will provide me with insights into what a real school and classroom looks like and how to teach to each individual child. I am excited to be given the opportunity to extend my learning in Mrs. Donovan's third grade classroom. The children will be my most significant teachers! I look forward to the learning I will do while being a part of this incredible educational institution.

In addition, I am the mother of two boys, ages 6 and 7, and they keep me very busy. After I became a mother, I realized that I wanted to pursue my life long dream of teaching. I love the transformation that takes place when a child realizes they can do something they did not think they could. One of my favorite things to say to my children is that "everything is hard until you learn how to do it." This mantra has helped them relax when learning a new concept or activity, and has helped give them the patience to learn successfully. At ESU, I am the Vice President of an Educational Honor Society called Kappa Delta Pi. It is with great enthusiasm that I am part of such a wonderful organization that will enhance my life as a teacher. I am looking forward to this amazing year ahead of me!

Miss Fehnel
(apprentice teacher in Mrs. Leon's room)

My name is Taryn Fehnel, and I would like to take the time to introduce myself because I will be co-teaching in your school under the supervision of Mrs. Leon. I will be teaching in Mrs. Leon's fifth grade class every Wednesday and Thursday until mid December. Overall, I am a proud and ambitious senior Elementary Education major with a concentration in reading from East Stroudsburg University. Also at school, I am an officer for Kappa Delta Pi, the national honors society for education. I reside in Nazareth Pennsylvania with my parents and younger brother. I enjoy spending time with my family and close friends, traveling, and reading. Further, I am an extremely organized, compassionate, and goal driven individual. I hope to use these qualities during my time at Governor Wolf Elementary. While at Governor Wolf, I wish to build relationships with students, parents and guardians, Mrs. Leon, and many other school professionals in order to grow as a pre-service teacher. In addition, I hope to learn and create engaging lessons and activities to do in the classroom in order to motivate students to learn. Last, I hope to become a valued member of the Governor Wolf community.

As far as I can remember, I always have had the desire to become a teacher. In my eyes, a teaching career is crucial to children and held in respect. I feel teachers are a building block in every child's life. As a teacher I want to help children prosper in anyway I can, and I want to inspire students to love learning and feel comfortable in school. I feel honored to be a new member at Governor Wolf. I believe Governor Wolf Elementary School is the perfect atmosphere for me to learn and grow as a teacher.

Miss Kanusky (apprentice teacher in Mrs. Recine's class)

My name is Alicia Kanusky, and I am an Elementary and Special Education student from East Stroudsburg University (ESU). I am an apprentice student participating in Mrs. Recine's Kindergarten classroom. Under the supervision of Mrs. Recine, I will be teaching lessons which are rich with hands-on activities and integrated with science, social studies, art, math, and reading. I am very honored and looking forward to working within the Governor Wolf Elementary School community. Governor Wolf holds the education of its student very high, and with that, I am egger to learn from the faculty and become involved in the school's activities.

I am originally from the Lehigh Valley; a Wilson Area High School Graduate. In my pastime, you'll be sure to find me either spending time with my six year old nieces, or curled up on the couch with a good book and my cat, Fonzy. I am a member of the International Honors Society for Education Majors, Kappa Delta Pi, at ESU. Also, I am certified in first aid and CPR. I have a great amount of experience working with children of many ages and many abilities. I gained experience working as a camp counselor, gymnastics instructor, and cheerleading coach, as well as, volunteered for the Special Olympics. My goals for the time I will spend in the classroom are to build teacher-student relationships, apply classroom management, and to keep learning interesting and engaging for all the students. The gift of learning is one of the most precious things you can give a child, and it is my dream to become a teacher to pass on that gift each and every day.
