Pennsylvania PTA Dues Increase……Why now

Your Pennsylvania PTA Board of Managers work to be good stewards of members’ money, to provide outstanding services to our members, and to be strong advocates for children and education. Pennsylvania PTA offers information through leadership training and conferences, advocates on behalf of ALL children and youth, provides many parent resources and tools on our 24/7 website, sponsors the Reflections Program (student arts program), personal help and training from a small staff and Board of Managers, provides programs for your PTA to use, and much more.

The members of the Pennsylvania PTA Board of Managers are volunteers serving statewide to further the good work and mission of PTA. Pennsylvania PTA has consistently kept our revenue directed toward the services and resources needed to meet the needs and trust of our membership. Our annual audits historically show our financial management to be in line with the highest levels of ethics and purpose. We continue to work toward finding non-dues revenue to help support our programs and activities. In order to continue to offer our current services and programs and to expand those offerings and to move Pennsylvania PTA into the 21st century, the Pennsylvania PTA Board of Managers has proposed a dues increase. The last time state membership dues were increased was in October 2000 when they went from $1.25 to $1.75.

The proposed bylaws amendment to increase the membership dues by $1.00/member to $2.75 will be presented to the general membership at the 2010 Pennsylvania PTA Convention. All amendments to the bylaws of the Pennsylvania PTA need to be approved by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the members present and voting at the state convention. LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD, MAKE PLANS TODAY TO ATTEND THIS YEAR’SSTATE CONVENTION.

With raising Pennsylvania PTA dues by $1.00/member, the combined state and National PTA membership dues will become $4.50/member. That is still less expensive than a movie without popcorn or a “foot long” sandwich at Subway. Your membership dues last you the whole year and give you a membership in three separate organizations - your local PTA unit, Pennsylvania PTA, and National PTA and therefore you are eligible to receive all the benefits of each organization. However the greatest benefit is the means to advocate for Pennsylvania's children on three different levels. That benefit is definitely something you can't put a price on.

We want to continue to offer the highest level of service to our members, students and families. More importantly, we want to continue to advocate for ALL our children and to make sure that we achieve the PTA vision of “making every child’s potential a reality.”

Be sure to have your PTA represented at this year’s convention, "Sweet Beginnings for Another 100 Years", April 16-18, 2010, at the Holiday Inn Grantville!
